Denmark is leading a major military exercise, “Arctic Light 2025,” involving over 550 troops from NATO member countries, including France, Germany, Sweden, and Norway, in Greenland. The drills come amid ongoing tensions over former U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims for U.S. jurisdiction over the strategically located North Atlantic island.

The Chief of Denmark’s Joint Arctic Command highlighted the regional influence of Russia while noting a “very good relationship with the U.S. military.”

During the exercise, Danish forces conducted boarding drills with special forces, while observers from the U.S., U.K., Canada, Sweden, and Germany monitored the operations. Attendees also witnessed Danish F-16 fighter jets in action and live-fire exercises.

The exercise aims to enhance operational readiness for both Danish and Greenlandic armed forces and strengthen joint response capabilities against destabilizing threats in Greenland, Denmark, and NATO territories across the North Atlantic and Arctic regions. Denmark also seeks to bolster its military presence around Greenland and the wider North Atlantic.
