Professional English News Report:
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo (MPJD), through its Liaison Office in Belgrade, continues to undertake intensive efforts to ensure due process and institutional engagement in the case of Mr. Arbnor Spahiu, a former Kosovo police officer arrested by Serbian authorities.

According to information received today from Spahiu’s defense lawyer, the High Court in Subotica has ruled to extend his pre-trial detention by an additional 30 days. Spahiu was arrested on June 7, 2025, and placed under initial detention on June 9. The High Prosecutor’s Office in Subotica has initiated criminal proceedings alleging his involvement in the Banjska case. However, his lawyer asserts that no credible evidence has been presented that would substantiate these claims or worsen Spahiu’s legal position.

The defense has submitted all relevant documentation issued by the Republic of Kosovo, including evidence proving that Mr. Spahiu had left the Kosovo Police several years before the Banjska incident occurred.

Kosovo’s Liaison Office representatives have remained in contact with Spahiu’s family, informing his wife of the court’s latest decision. The family is expected to travel to Subotica on July 10 to visit him and will also meet officials in Belgrade.

Given the court’s decision to extend detention, the Liaison Office will formally request visitation approval, expected to be granted by the end of this week or early next week.

The Liaison Office remains in regular contact with Spahiu’s family and international diplomatic missions, ensuring transparency and providing updates on institutional steps being taken.

The MPJD reiterates its commitment to ensuring that the case is handled fairly and transparently, in accordance with international law and obligations arising from the EU-facilitated dialogue.
