The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued an alert today regarding an “elevated threat environment” within U.S. territory. This warning comes immediately after American military strikes targeted nuclear facilities in Iran.

In addition to potential physical attacks, DHS specifically warned of cyber attack risks, emphasizing that pro-Iranian hackers and state-sponsored cyber actors could launch operations against American infrastructure.

The DHS bulletin also expressed concerns that self-mobilized violent extremists might carry out attacks within the U.S., particularly if Iranian leadership issues religious calls for retaliation.

Increased Islamophobia and Antisemitism Concerns

In parallel with these new warnings, a significant rise in incidents of Islamophobia and antisemitism has been reported since the start of Israel’s war in Gaza in October 2023. These incidents include a shooting in Washington and incendiary device incidents in Colorado targeting the Israeli community.

In response, local authorities in major cities such as Los Angeles, Washington, and New York have increased patrols near religious and cultural institutions, as well as diplomatic missions.

The bulletin, issued through the National Terrorism Advisory System, cautioned that the “Israel-Iran war could motivate U.S.-based individuals to plan further attacks.” However, DHS officials have stressed that while vigilance remains high, there are no concrete or credible threats detected to date.
