Prishtina, July 13, 2025 – In response to the seasonal influx of citizens and diaspora members returning home for the summer, the Municipality of Prishtina has announced an extension of operating hours for several key civil services.
Starting July 8, municipal offices providing vital documentation—such as civil registry services, birth and marriage certificates—will now remain open until 17:00, an hour longer than the previous schedule of 08:00–16:00.
The decision aims to better accommodate the increased demand for public services, particularly among Kosovo Albanians returning from abroad.
One such returnee is Artan Ramadani from Germany, who welcomed the extension but also suggested further improvements.
“It would be even better if services remained open until 18:00. It’s not just about longer hours but also ensuring the work is efficient. Breaks shouldn’t be unnecessarily long,” Ramadani told RTK.
Another local citizen also appreciated the new hours:
“It would be better if it were extended more, but even this change is very good.”
According to municipal authorities, the extended hours will apply to several service points, including:
Old Municipal Building (Komuna e Vjetër)
Citizen Service Center (Qendra për Shërbime me Qytetarë)
Civil Registry Office (Gjendja Civile)
New Municipality (Komuna e Re)
Local Community Office in Lagjja e Muhaxherëve
This move is part of a broader trend, as other municipalities follow suit. In Vushtrri, for example, municipal services will now also be available on Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:00.
The initiative is designed to ensure that citizens and diaspora members can obtain essential documentation during the busy summer period—a time when thousands return to reconnect with family and heritage.
