Kosovo citizens registered abroad will have the opportunity to vote before those living in Kosovo in the general elections of February 9.

The voting period for the registered diaspora will begin on January 9 and end on February 8 — a total of 31 days.

The spokesperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Valmir Elezi, announced that Germany leads with the highest number of registered voters for the February 9 elections.

“The two countries with the largest number of registered voters are Germany, with 44,774 voters, and Switzerland, with 27,248 registered voters. Other countries such as France, Sweden, Austria, Italy, the United States, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Finland also make up the top 10 countries with the most registered voters abroad for the electoral process in our country,” Elezi said, according to KP.

A total of 104,924 citizens will have the right to vote in the parliamentary elections. Many of them will vote at Kosovo’s diplomatic missions, while others will send their ballots to the CEC’s postal ballot boxes.

A larger number of people have registered to send their ballots by mail, rather than voting at diplomatic missions.

“Out of the total number of registered voters abroad, which is 104,924, 20,399 are registered to vote physically at one of the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Kosovo on February 8. Meanwhile, 17,104 other citizens are registered to send their ballots by mail to the CEC’s postal ballot boxes, and the largest number, 67,421 voters, are registered to send their ballots to one of the CEC’s postal boxes set up abroad,” Elezi highlighted.

According to Elezi, this data is part of the final report for certifying the Voter List for the elections to the Kosovo Assembly, showing that during the 120-day registration period for voters abroad (August 29 – December 26, 2024), 104,924 voters were registered.

According to the CEC, all citizens registered to vote abroad will find their names only on the Voter List for voters abroad, and their names will be removed from the Voter List used at polling stations on election day.

A total of 1,970,944 Kosovar voters will be eligible to vote in the February 9 elections, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on that day.
