The Mayor of Mitrovica, Bedri Hamza, has dismissed Fahri (Fatlum) Jashari, the Director of Culture, Youth, and Sports, over suspicions of misuse of official duty.
Speaking for the first time after his dismissal, Jashari described the issue as a technical error in a contract, not an intentional misuse.
“In reality, the truth is that we made a technical mistake in a contract — we entered a higher amount. But we agreed with the other party, and the funds were returned,” he told Indeksonline.
He clarified that the error involved €6,500, explaining:
- The total contract value was €10,000.
- Of this, €3,050 was tied to the project.
- During the process, an error was made in adding the figures.
- The mistake was discovered after a review from the finance office.
Jashari stated that he also discussed the matter with Mayor Hamza, but the decision for dismissal had already been made.
Authorities confirmed that investigations are still at an early stage, and that early intervention prevented any potential financial damage to the municipality.
