The coalition of non-governmental organizations “Demokracia në Veprim” (DnV) assessed that the electoral process for the February 9 parliamentary elections in Kosovo generally adhered to democratic standards for free elections.

According to DnV, the elections were organized at an adequate level, with the exception of the late publication of results by the Central Election Commission (KQZ) and the counting of votes for candidates.

Eugen Cakolli from DnV stated that there were reports of irregularities and violations during the voting process. He highlighted the most acute issue of the day: the easy removal of the ink marker on some voters’ fingers.

“The voting and counting process on the previous day took place generally in a calm and democratic atmosphere, with a relatively high voter turnout. However, the process was accompanied by irregularities and violations, which, although procedural, should have been addressed earlier by the KQZ. Among these, perhaps the most acute problem was the easy removal of the ink used to mark voters’ fingers, due to the quality of this electoral product provided by KQZ, which arrived late,” Cakolli stated.

The issue raised by DnV calls attention to the need for timely improvements and quality control in the election process to ensure the integrity and smooth execution of elections.
