The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, spoke about her relations with Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
She said that they cooperate as institutions.
While emphasizing that she and Kurti have different approaches, their goal is the same—a sovereign and integrated Kosovo.
“We’ve met often, especially in the past two years, we’ve had ongoing discussions. Today (06.09.2024), we spoke with each other, as we had the 25th anniversary of the (establishment of the) Police. We cooperate as institutions, and we have a constitutional duty to cooperate. We have different approaches regarding how to achieve the same goal; we are all fallible, no one is infallible, I cannot say now which approach will be more successful for Kosovo, but we share the same goal—a sovereign Kosovo integrated into Euro-Atlantic structures,” Osmani said on KallxoPernime.
However, during the interview, Osmani placed some “blame” on the government for the lack of discussion and coordination on certain issues.
She said that they had not discussed Germany’s offer with Kurti, which suggested that Kosovo find a way to lift measures on Serbian goods in order to reach an agreement on changing Kosovo’s representation status in CEFTA.
“Regarding this topic, no, because the way this works, they should consult the President on matters of foreign policy, and this issue has never been raised with me,” said Osmani.
The rift between Kurti and Osmani has been a topic of discussion frequently in the past year. It was particularly noted after Kurti’s absence from a meeting called by President Osmani on July 31, 2024, to consult on the date of parliamentary elections.
Osmani said she does not know the reason for his absence.
