The United States and China held meetings Thursday morning to discuss easing the current trade war, according to U.S. President Donald Trump.
“We might release [details] later, but they had meetings this morning, and we’ve been meeting with China,” said the American president at the White House on Thursday, as reported by The Guardian.
Earlier on Thursday, China denied Trump’s previous claims that the two countries were actively negotiating over tariffs.
Chinese Foreign Ministry official Guo Jiakun stated that there have been no consultations or negotiations between China and the U.S. on tariffs, let alone any agreement being reached. He added that reports of ongoing discussions were “false.”
China is the country most affected by the tariffs imposed by Trump on imports from all countries that tax American exports. The tariff war has severely impacted global markets, causing losses in the trillions.
