Dozens of Police Officers and Chiefs Detained as Suspects in Kocan Tragedy

More than ten police officers and former police directors from Kocani and Štip have been detained as suspects in connection with the fire at the “Pulse” nightclub in Kocani. According to “Skopje1,” some of them are current chiefs who were on duty in March when the tragedy occurred, resulting in the deaths of 62 young people.

Several former police officers and officials, as well as former mayors of Kočani and heads of various state institutions responsible for issuing licenses to operate the improvised nightclub, are now suspects in the case.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MPB) informed “Skopje1” that three criminal charges have been filed covering different time periods.

“The first criminal charge concerns the period from 2022 to 2024, against a total of seven individuals, of whom five are active police officers and two are retirees.

The second criminal charge relates to the period from 2012 to 2022, against a total of ten individuals, of whom (two officers are repeat offenders) four are active police officers and six are retirees.

The third criminal charge concerns the period from 2023 to 2024, against three police officers, one of whom is a repeat offender,” the MPB stated.
