Dragan Šormaz, former deputy of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, has sharply criticized the Serbian leadership’s attempts to deny responsibility for the deadly Banjska attack in Kosovo, highlighting the contradictions in their defense.
In a tweet, Šormaz condemned the continued justification from Vučić and his inner circle, who claim that Serbia is not involved in the attack. “All day, @avucic and his entourage keep justifying: ‘It wasn’t us, Serbia didn’t do it!'” Šormaz wrote. He questions how, after the events in Banjska, Vučić could not be under suspicion, especially given that Milan Radojičić, who is believed to have orchestrated the attack, has neither been extradited nor prosecuted.
Šormaz pointed out the inherent contradiction in the Serbian government’s narrative, saying, “How can you not be a suspect after Banjska, when you haven’t even extradited or tried Radojičić yet?” He further criticized Vučić for his handling of the situation, stating that no one should believe a leader who is willing to go to any lengths to “hide” responsibility for the deaths of 15 people.
The Banjska attack, which occurred in late 2023, was one of the most significant incidents of violence in Kosovo in recent years, leaving 15 people dead and raising serious questions about Serbia’s role in supporting militant groups operating in the region. Despite strong evidence pointing to Serbian involvement, including the participation of known Serbian operatives like Radojičić, the Serbian government has continued to deny any responsibility, fueling tensions between Kosovo and Serbia.
Šormaz’s statement underscores the growing frustration and skepticism surrounding the Serbian government’s refusal to take responsibility for the attack and its lack of accountability for those responsible.
