The Ukrainian capital Kyiv was struck by a massive Russian attack early Saturday morning, involving drones and missiles that triggered fires and scattered debris across several residential districts. According to Kyiv’s Mayor, at least 15 people have been injured so far in what is seen as one of the most intense strikes on the city in recent weeks. The assault comes amid a notable escalation of Ukrainian operations, with reports of approximately 800 attacks on Russian territory, including Moscow itself.
In response, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that Russia will retaliate forcefully against Ukraine’s continued offensive actions.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin for his delayed response to ceasefire initiatives, particularly in light of a recent prisoner exchange between the two countries. The exchange saw 390 Ukrainian prisoners returned home, with more repatriations expected over the weekend.
Zelensky emphasized the need for stronger international action:
“It is clearly time to increase the pressure on Russia not just for a result, but for everything that is necessary.”
As the war grinds on, both the human toll and the geopolitical stakes continue to rise.
