A massive drone attack by Ukraine struck the heart of Russia on the night of Tuesday, triggering alarms and chaos across Moscow. As a result, flights at two of the capital’s main airports, Vnukovo and Zhukovsky, were temporarily suspended.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that 112 Ukrainian drones targeted six different regions across the country. However, Russian authorities claim that most of the drones were shot down by air defenses.
Meanwhile, Russia retaliated swiftly. Another wave of drone attacks struck the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, injuring at least eight people, including a child, according to the regional governor.
Ukrainian air forces issued air raid warnings in several regions, including Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv.
These attacks came just hours after US President Donald Trump accused Vladimir Putin of “playing with fire.” Russia, however, appeared undeterred by Trump’s comments and continued its offensive.
Against the backdrop of escalating fighting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to visit Berlin on Wednesday. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has expressed stronger support for Ukraine and hinted that Germany may deliver powerful Taurus missiles to Kyiv, having lifted previous restrictions on the range of weapons supplied to the Ukrainian frontlines.
