As the Kosovo Assembly prepares to hold its 52nd session tomorrow—a constitutionally crucial meeting that marks the 30-day deadline set by the Constitutional Court—the political deadlock over electing the new Speaker remains unresolved due to insufficient votes.
Despite ongoing talks between Albin Kurti’s Vetëvendosje (LVV) and Fatmir Limaj’s NISMA, the numbers reportedly only reach 60 votes, one short of the required minimum of 61.
A key player in this gridlock is Bosniak MP Duda Balje, who has made it clear that she will not support Kurti and has no interest in political positions or privileges.
In an interview with Indeksonline, Balje disclosed that she was approached by Fatmir Limaj, who inquired whether she would consider any position or benefit in exchange for her support.
“I told him I don’t want any positions or anything personal. My request has always been for the Bosniak community,” Balje said.
She also reaffirmed her firm stance against cooperating with Albin Kurti.
“I cannot work with someone I don’t trust—and he doesn’t trust me either.”
Balje went further, claiming she is the target of a personal political campaign and raised serious concerns over statements allegedly made by LVV MP Arbër Rexhaj, who, according to her, said that she was mentioned in discussions within the Security Council.
“Do you know what the Security Council is? How can a deputy have access to such information? This is very alarming,” she said.
Balje insists that the core of her demands is the establishment of a municipality for the Bosniak community, rather than any ministerial or political role.
