Earthquake Tragedy: 14-Year-Old Girl Dies from Panic Attack, 69 Injured After Jumping from Heights in Turkey

The 5.8-magnitude earthquake that struck near Rhodes and Turkey has had devastating effects, especially in Turkey, where the quake struck in the middle of the night, around 2:00 AM, catching many residents asleep.

While Greece reported no injuries, Turkey faced tragedy. According to Turkish daily Sabah, a 14-year-old girl named Afranur Günlü died from a panic attack during the tremor in Fethiye, despite being rushed to the hospital.

In addition, 69 people were injured after jumping from balconies or windows out of fear, officials confirmed.

The quake was felt strongly in the provinces of Muğla, Izmir, Antalya, Aydın, Denizli, and Manisa. According to Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, 14 of those injured were from Muğla and nearby areas.

“During the earthquake in Fethiye, our 14-year-old daughter Afranur Günlü was taken to the hospital after suffering a panic attack, but sadly passed away despite all efforts. In Muğla and surrounding districts, 14 of 69 citizens who jumped from heights out of panic received hospital treatment. I wish a speedy recovery to those affected. May God protect our country from disasters,” Yerlikaya said.
