In 2025, expenses nearly reached the 9 million CHF ceiling; a potential visit by Donald Trump to WEF 2026 could further increase costs.
Security costs for the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos continue to rise year after year and may increase even further in 2026. For the 2025 edition, expenses reached CHF 8,999,958, nearly hitting the maximum limit of 9 million.
The Canton of Graubünden confirmed this to the news agency Keystone-SDA, citing information from the newspaper Südostschweiz, as reported by albinfo.ch.
The increase compared to 2024, when expenses were CHF 7.71 million, is significant. The primary factor is the rise in daily rates for non-cantonal police forces, from CHF 600 to CHF 750 per officer per day.
In 2025, the absence of major international political figures helped contain costs. However, this may change next January. According to some news agencies, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced his participation in WEF 2026, which will be held from January 19 to 23 in Davos. This possibility would bring enhanced security measures and additional expenses.
Costs are distributed according to a predetermined model: WEF covers 50%, the Confederation 25%, the Canton of Grisons 21.7%, and the Municipality of Davos 3.3%. If the 9 million CHF threshold is exceeded, an additional contribution from the Confederation is anticipated.
