Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that the social media platform TikTok will be banned for one year, referring to it as the “neighborhood troublemaker.”

The Prime Minister emphasized that “we are worried when our children associate with it when they leave the house,” adding that TikTok is very powerful and influential.

Rama further explained that during the year the measure is in place, the government will observe how other countries act and whether filters will be implemented on the platform.

“It’s much stronger, much more influential, and much more attractive, that neighborhood troublemaker that kids have on their phones called TikTok.

TikTok is the neighborhood troublemaker, and we are afraid when our child associates with it when they leave the house.

We will shut down TikTok for one year. We’ve conducted our technological research, and we will need 6-8 weeks starting from the beginning of next year, and for one year, we will shut it down completely for everyone. TikTok will not be available in the Republic of Albania. Then, during that year, we will see how other countries act, what technology will bring in terms of filters, etc., and how TikTok will react,” said Rama.
