Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has departed for Washington, D.C. to attend the official founding ceremony of the Peace Board, following an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 19 at the Trump Institute for Peace.

Albania Joins International Peace Initiative

According to an official statement from the Albanian government, Rama confirmed that Albania will participate in the Peace Board as part of broader international efforts aimed at strengthening global peace initiatives, particularly focusing on stability in the Middle East and addressing wider global conflicts.

Rama previously emphasized that Albania’s participation would not involve financial contributions for membership or permanent status within the organization. Instead, he highlighted that Albania’s role would be based on diplomatic engagement, international credibility, and strategic cooperation.

Regional Representation and Previous Meeting

The Peace Board consists of 27 member states, including Kosovo, which was represented during an earlier meeting by President Vjosa Osmani. Albania, however, was not present at that initial gathering of member countries.

Mandate and International Oversight

The newly formed body has reportedly been authorized by the United Nations Security Council to oversee the implementation of ceasefire agreements in Gaza and to engage in governance and reconstruction efforts in post-conflict areas.

Officials state that the initiative aims to introduce a new diplomatic framework designed to enhance international cooperation in conflict resolution and peacebuilding efforts.

Rama’s participation in the founding ceremony is expected to underline Albania’s commitment to global security and its growing diplomatic engagement in international peace processes.
