Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said the world is witnessing a “historic moment” as Israel and Hamas agree to the first phase of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire plan.
Egypt has been a key mediator in the conflict, alongside Qatar, Turkey, and the United States.
“The world is living through a historic moment that embodies the triumph of the will for peace over the logic of war,” el-Sisi wrote on X.
He added that from Sharm El-Sheikh — “the city of peace and cradle of dialogue and understanding” — an agreement has been reached to end the war in Gaza after two years of suffering and hardship, in line with the peace plan proposed by President Donald Trump, under the auspices of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.
“This agreement not only closes the chapter of war,” el-Sisi continued, “but also opens the door of hope for the peoples of the region toward a future defined by justice and stability.”
