Various institutions responsible for organizing elections in their respective countries are expected to visit Kosovo to closely monitor the upcoming Local Elections for Mayors and Municipal Assemblies.

Observers will have the opportunity to monitor not only the voting process on election day, October 12, but also various organizational aspects of the elections.

CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi stated that the list of these election institutions will be published once the accreditation procedures are completed.

“The CEC is a full member of the Association of World Election Officials (A-WEO) and has developed cooperative relationships with institutions from various countries responsible for organizing elections, as well as with specialized election organizations. Within the framework of these collaborations, we have prepared a special program for international observers who will visit the Republic of Kosovo to familiarize themselves with our electoral system and assess our electoral practices,” said Elezi.

These election institutions will not be the only entities allowed to observe the Local Elections, as the CEC is still accepting other applications.

“The online application period for accrediting observers and media representatives for monitoring the Local Elections for Mayors and Municipal Assemblies, to be held on October 12, 2025, is ongoing. On September 17, the deadline closed for 93 political subjects to submit their requests for observer accreditation. The period remains open until September 27 for local NGOs, governmental and intergovernmental organizations, international organizations, and foreign country representatives, while the final deadline for local and international media applications is October 7,” announced Elezi.

According to the CEC, election observation is essential for strengthening citizens’ and stakeholders’ trust in the fairness and transparency of the elections, ensuring that they are conducted in accordance with the highest democratic standards.
