January 25 marks the deadline for NGOs and international organizations to apply for election observer accreditation for Kosovo’s parliamentary elections on February 9, 2025. Media applications remain open until February 4.

Today, January 25, marks the final deadline for non-governmental organizations (NGOs), governmental and intergovernmental organizations, international election observers, and foreign representatives to apply for accreditation to monitor Kosovo’s upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for February 9, 2025.

Valmir Elezi, spokesperson for the Central Election Commission (CEC), confirmed that the process is facilitated through an online platform to streamline applications.

Accreditation Updates

  • As of January 20, political entities had already finalized their observer submissions.
  • Today’s deadline applies to:
    • NGOs
    • Governmental and intergovernmental organizations
    • International election-related organizations
    • Representatives of foreign countries

According to Elezi, the next and final accreditation phase is reserved for media outlets, which can submit applications until February 4, 2025.

Media Involvement

Media outlets, both domestic and international, are encouraged to apply via the CEC’s online platform at https://apliko.kqz-ks.org. Elezi reported receiving numerous applications thus far, with hundreds of media representatives set to cover election day and related activities at counting centers.

Accredited Observers So Far

  • Out of 28 political entities, only 21 have accredited observers.
  • Over 18,000 observers from certified political entities have been accredited to oversee the elections.

Application Process

  1. Authorized representatives of organizations or media outlets must first complete an online application via the platform.
  2. The Office for Registration, Certification, and Financial Oversight of Political Entities will review and approve applications.
  3. Upon approval, credentials are issued to the authorized representative for adding organization-specific observer details.
