The Kosovo Police and the Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica have responded following claims made by the head of the Kosovo Fishermen’s Association, who alleged that submerged electric wires were spotted in Lake Ujman, posing a potential threat to public safety, Gazeta Sinjali reports.

In a joint statement, the Kosovo Police, through the Regional Directorate in North Mitrovica, confirmed that investigations began on July 30, 2025. The individual who reported the issue was interviewed today as a witness and stated that during an operation to remove unauthorized boats, he noticed wires in the water, which—if activated—could pose a risk.

The police also received a video related to the case and promptly conducted on-site inspections via the Water Border Control Unit. After verification, it was determined that the wires are not connected to an electrical power source and therefore do not pose any danger.

“Furthermore, the Kosovo Police have not previously received any reports regarding this matter. After reviewing all available evidence and information, the Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica has assessed that there are no elements of any criminal offense,” the statement said.

The police urge citizens not to be alarmed or feel threatened, assuring the public that any suspicious cases are handled with utmost care and seriousness. The Water Border Control Unit and other police divisions continue regular patrols at Lake Ujman to ensure safety and monitor the situation on the ground.
