With falling temperatures, electricity consumption in Kosovo is expected to rise, along with higher bills for citizens.

KESCO told RTK that electricity consumption this year has already increased by 8%.

The rise is attributed mainly to the use of air conditioners and other heating and cooling devices. Citizens have been urged to save electricity in order to avoid further increases in tariffs.

Compared to the same period last year, households have consumed around 8% more electricity. With colder weather approaching, consumption is expected to grow further, leading to even higher bills.

KESCO spokesperson Margarita Rashiti stated that in the first 11 days of September alone, over 1,100 MWh of electricity were imported.

If consumption continues to rise, Ymer Fejzullahu, Chairman of the ERO board, has not ruled out the possibility of higher electricity tariffs.

Energy experts argue that the increase in consumption is driven by the greater use of air conditioners and other electrical devices for heating and cooling. They emphasize that Kosovo must focus on expanding its generation capacities.

The Kosovo government has on several occasions subsidized citizens in purchasing energy-efficient heating and cooling devices, in an effort to reduce electricity consumption.
