Ten political entities, including two citizen initiatives and eight independent candidates, have submitted their applications to the Central Election Commission (CEC) to be certified for participation in the local elections scheduled for October 12.

This information was provided by the CEC spokesperson, Valmir Elezi, who also announced that only three days remain until the deadline for submitting candidate lists.

“So far, 10 political entities, including 2 citizen initiatives and 8 independent candidates, have applied for certification to participate in the local elections to be held on October 12, 2025. The total number of candidates representing these political entities is 64, of which 5 are candidates for mayors and 59 for members of municipal assemblies,” Elezi stated.

According to him, in the next session, the CEC will review the recommendations prepared by the Office for Registration, Certification, and Financial Control of Political Entities and will make separate decisions on each application.

“After receiving these applications, the Office for Registration, Certification, and Financial Control of Political Entities (ORCFPE) has undertaken the legal steps to verify the candidates in cooperation with various state institutions according to their legal responsibilities and has prepared certification recommendations. In the next session, the CEC will review and make individual decisions on each application,” Elezi added.

Elezi also noted that political entities have full discretion to decide in which municipalities they will participate in the elections and to determine whether they will compete only for mayoral elections, only for municipal assemblies, or for both simultaneously in a specific municipality.
