The spokesperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Valmir Elezi, announced that the vote recount process is continuing at the Counting and Results Center (CRC) and is expected to be completed by the end of January, while final election results are planned to be announced in early February.

Elezi stated that the recount is being conducted based on two official decisions of the CEC.

“The recounting process at the Counting and Results Center is ongoing and is being carried out based on two decisions of the Central Election Commission. In total, the recount will include all 2,557 polling stations where the regular election process took place on December 28, 2025,” Elezi said.

According to the first CEC decision dated January 13, 2026, a recount was planned for 914 polling stations, while the second decision on January 19, 2026 expanded the process to include an additional 1,643 polling stations, effectively extending the recount nationwide.

Elezi explained that dozens of counting teams have been deployed to ensure the process is completed within the designated deadlines.

“Currently, 76 counting teams are engaged daily in the recount process. Based on this capacity and the number of remaining polling stations, we are making every effort to complete the recount by the end of January,” he said.

After the recount is finalized, the CEC will proceed with legal steps toward announcing and certifying the final election results, while respecting the complaint deadlines for political entities and candidates.

“Once the recount is completed, the CEC will announce the final election results in early February. In line with the Law on General Elections, political parties and candidates may submit complaints to the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP), and potentially to the Supreme Court,” Elezi explained.

He added that the full recount is expected to eliminate uncertainties regarding the results, which could reduce the need for legal appeals, although the CEC must still observe all legally mandated procedures before certification.

On Monday, the Central Election Commission decided on a full recount of votes from the December 28 general elections, covering polling stations in 28 municipalities.

Under the January 13 decision, a full recount was initially ordered in 10 municipalities, while only 10% of polling stations were to be recounted in the remaining 28. However, with 11 votes in favor, the CEC approved a proposal to expand the recount to all municipalities and dismiss party representatives from the Municipal Election Commission in Prizren.
