The spokesperson for the Central Election Commission (CEC), Valmir Elezi, has stated that the registration of political parties for the formation of coalitions for the parliamentary elections scheduled for February 9, 2025, is ongoing.
He confirmed that, to date, the CEC has received the registration of one coalition between two registered political parties: the Democratic Party of Unity and the Balli Initiative.
“According to the General Elections Law, registered political parties in Kosovo that wish to participate in the elections through a coalition must notify the CEC, specifically the Office for Registration, Certification, and Financial Oversight of Political Entities, by no later than August 30, 2024 (16:00). A coalition can be formed by at least two political parties, and a political party cannot withdraw from the coalition once it has been certified until the election results are certified.”
“Additionally, a political party that is a member of a coalition cannot participate as a member in another coalition or as a separate political party in the same elections. The deadline for political parties to notify the CEC, specifically the Office for Registration, Certification, and Financial Oversight of Political Entities, about their non-participation in the elections is also August 30, 2024 (16:00). So far, registered political parties, the Democratic Party of the Diaspora and the Movement for Union, have announced their non-participation in the elections,” Elezi said.
