The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kosovo is planning to complete the vote recount process by Friday, January 30, according to CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi.
Speaking to Klan Kosova, Elezi said that the recount entered its 17th day on Thursday.
“From the start of the process (Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 18:00) until today (Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 10:00), approximately 88 percent — or 2,245 out of 2,557 polling stations — have been recounted,” Elezi stated.
He added that 34 municipalities have already completed the recount, while 312 polling stations across the remaining four municipalities are still pending.
Final Results Depend on Completion Time
According to Elezi, the recount of the remaining polling stations is expected to be completed within the next two days. However, whether the final election results will be announced on Friday depends on the exact time the recount concludes, a decision that will ultimately be made by the Central Election Commission.
Complaint Period Still Applies
Elezi reiterated that after the recount is finalized, the CEC will announce the final election results, in accordance with the Law on General Elections.
Political parties and candidates will then have the right to file complaints with the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) and, if necessary, continue the process before the Supreme Court.
“The recount removes all doubts regarding the election results and may reduce the need for complaints,” Elezi said, noting that the CEC must still respect the legal deadlines before certifying the results and formally closing the electoral process.
Scope of the Recount
The recount covers all polling stations where regular voting took place on December 28, 2025.
- Under the first CEC decision on January 13, 2026, 100 percent of polling stations were to be recounted in 10 municipalities, including Dragash, Kaçanik, Prizren, Skënderaj, Ferizaj, Vushtrri, and others, while 10 percent were selected in 28 other municipalities.
- Following a second decision on January 19, 2026, additional polling stations from these municipalities were also included, expanding the scope of the recount nationwide.
