The Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced that the voting process for the 2025 local elections has officially started across all polling centers in the Republic of Kosovo, with only minor delays reported at a few polling stations.
CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi confirmed that the election materials, including ballot papers, were delivered on time and that voting began as planned.
“We inform you that in the early morning hours, election materials, including ballots, were distributed on time to all polling centers. Based on information received from the CEC, the voting process for the Local Elections — for both mayors and municipal assemblies — has started in all polling centers in the Republic of Kosovo, except for minor delays of a few minutes in some polling stations,” Elezi stated.
He noted that voting is being held in 948 polling centers, with a total of 2,625 polling stations — including 910 centers with 2,571 regular polling stations and 38 centers (one per municipality) with 54 polling stations for conditional voting.
“According to the Voters’ List, the number of citizens eligible to vote today in the Republic of Kosovo is 2,025,105, spread across 38 municipalities. In addition to regular polling stations, the CEC is also organizing voting through mobile teams for 3,467 registered voters with special needs,” Elezi added.
He encouraged all eligible citizens to make use of their right to vote:
“The Central Election Commission invites all citizens with the right to vote to exercise their constitutional right — the right to vote. Additionally, through the online platform https://qv.kqz-ks.org, every voter can easily check the polling center where they are assigned to vote.”
The ongoing election process will determine 38 mayors and 942 members of 38 municipal assemblies across the country.
A total of 93 political entities are certified to participate, including 32 political parties, 2 coalitions, 32 citizens’ initiatives, and 27 independent candidates, representing 5,624 certified candidates — 205 for mayors and 5,419 for municipal assemblies.
Elezi also confirmed that all necessary preparations have been made for the publication of preliminary results immediately after the voting process concludes.
“We have worked diligently to ensure there are no delays, so we can present the results as quickly as possible,” he said.
