Elshani: Around 600 Protesters Present, Situation is Calm

Approximately 600 protesters participated in the demonstration organized by local Serbs in North Mitrovica, opposing the reopening of the Ibar Bridge, which has been closed to vehicle traffic since the end of the Kosovo war.

The Deputy Director of Kosovo Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani, provided details about the number of protesters present at the “Car Lazar” square.

“The number is approximately 600 according to our estimation. The situation is calm. We are here to ensure public order, and everything is under control,” he said.

He added that the protest was announced on Saturday and is expected to last for one hour.

“The protest was announced on Saturday or Sunday for today from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A group of citizens is protesting due to dissatisfaction with the social situation and the responsibilities of the Serbian community,” he stated.
