For some time now, the Kosovo Police, through its intelligence units, has continued to uncover and confiscate illegal weapons in North Mitrovica, which are suspected to have been hidden by criminal groups with the aim of destabilizing the area. The identification and seizure of these weapons have been made possible thanks to cooperation from local residents, who are helping security forces remove dangerous arsenals from circulation and maintain public order.
It is not uncommon for the Kosovo Police to discover and confiscate weapons caches in northern Mitrovica. During various police operations, long firearms, ammunition of various calibers, magazines, smoke hand grenades, military-grade body armor, and military clothing have been found and seized.
The Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police for the Northern Region, Veton Elshani, told RTK that the weapons found in this area were hidden in the past by criminal groups with the intention of destabilizing the security situation.
According to Elshani, the identification and confiscation of these weapons are being carried out thanks to close cooperation with citizens living in this part of the country.
The most recent case of illegal weapons discovery occurred yesterday during an inspection of the basement of a building on “Vasilije Ostroshki” Street in North Mitrovica.
During the operation, police seized three long firearms, 764 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, 14 magazines, 10 ammunition clips, one smoke hand grenade, two military-grade bulletproof vests, and military clothing.
