The Emergency Clinic at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK) faced a surge of patients over the weekend, treating around 900 cases, including 61 accident-related emergencies, causing significant strain on staff and resources.

Authorities urged citizens to first seek care at family medicine centers or regional hospitals for non-urgent cases, to prevent overloading the emergency department, which is reserved for life-threatening cases.

Family medicine centers in the capital also reported high patient numbers, with some centers handling 1,600–1,900 consultations per week, including night shifts, far exceeding typical capacity. Last year, only 2% of emergency cases were referred directly to the University Clinical Center.
