Emergency Management Agency Reports Improved Situation Across Kosovo After Floods

The Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has provided an update on the situation in Kosovo following heavy rains that caused widespread flooding. Based on the latest data, conditions have significantly improved after the rain subsided and snowfall began, reports Gazeta Express.

EMA noted that water levels in the main rivers have started to recede and there is no immediate risk of new flooding. However, snowfall and freezing conditions have caused difficulties in road traffic in some areas, with several roads remaining blocked due to landslides. Citizens are urged to exercise extra caution.

According to data from the Emergency Operation Centers 112 and operational units in the field, the flood situation in Kosovo has significantly improved. Water levels in main rivers are falling, and there is no immediate risk of further flooding.

Regional Status:

  • Prishtinë & Surroundings: Localized flooding in underpasses and some secondary road blockages; situation remains manageable.
  • Prizren: Very few interventions reported overnight, mainly technical in nature.
  • Mitrovicë: Mostly calm; a few families in South Mitrovicë were temporarily evacuated as a precaution.
  • Pejë: Two interventions in Istog, including evacuation of one family; other municipalities stable.
  • Gjakovë & Gjilan: Situation calm and under control; water levels in rivers are falling.
  • Professional Fire and Rescue Units across the country remain mobilized to assist citizens.
  • Emergency Communication System 112 continues 24/7 monitoring and coordination.

Additional Difficulties:
Snowfall and freezing conditions are causing traffic disruptions in some areas. Some roads remain blocked due to landslides. Citizens are urged to drive cautiously and adapt to road conditions.

Institutional Interventions:
The Emergency Management Agency has supported KEK and KOSTT with high-capacity water pumps to remove water from affected buildings, which remain operational as needed.
