The Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) issued a statement on Monday clarifying that decisions regarding electricity tariffs fall exclusively under its jurisdiction and cannot be annulled or postponed by any other public institution, except through court intervention, reports Rks News.
ERO emphasized that “statements claiming that ‘only the government can postpone the decision on increasing electricity prices’ are inaccurate and do not align with the legal framework governing the energy sector.”
According to the institution, the government may intervene only through direct subsidies to consumers, but holds no regulatory decision-making authority over tariff matters.
“ERO decisions cannot be reviewed or challenged by any public institution other than through judicial review in the competent court of Kosovo,” the statement reads, referencing the Law on Administrative Conflicts.
ERO also commented on the ongoing liberalization of the energy market for commercial consumers, stating that this is an obligation arising from European directives that have been incorporated into Kosovo’s legislation since 2016.
Finally, ERO noted that it will closely monitor the implementation of this process to ensure consumer protection and legal compliance from all involved parties.
