U.S. Congressman Eliot Engel was one of the greatest friends Kosovo had in the United States.

Because of his strong connection to the country, he visited several times—a place he significantly supported and worked tirelessly to help liberate from Serbia and later achieve independence.

One of these visits took place during the 10th anniversary of Kosovo’s statehood in February 2018, when he was invited as a special guest of honor.

On that occasion, he delivered an emotional speech in Parliament, where he highlighted, among other things, how pro-American the people of Kosovo are.

“If you look at where this country has been and where it is going, and what it has achieved, I say happy birthday Kosovo, because you have had a wonderful birthday,” he said. “I can tell you that nowhere in the world are there people more friendly toward the United States than here in Kosovo. Therefore, I thank you.”

Engel also stated that he hoped to see Kosovo recognized by all nations of the world within the next ten years.

“I want to see Kosovo in the EU, I want to see Kosovo in NATO, and I want to see Kosovo in the United Nations,” he declared, adding that it is important for people to understand that this is the right thing to do.
