French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said in an interview on Wednesday that he could not “rule out” the possibility that other French diplomats may be implicated in the Epstein files.

The statement followed revelations that another former French diplomat is suspected of having maintained close contacts with the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sexual offenses.

The allegations concerning the former French diplomat, published Tuesday in the French media, prompted Barrot to refer the individual to the Ministry of Justice in order to initiate an internal investigation and disciplinary proceedings — measures that could affect the lifelong privileges enjoyed by civil servants — as the senior French diplomat reported on X.

In his interview with French radio station RTL, Barrot emphasized that the release of three million documents by the U.S. Department of Justice related to Jeffrey Epstein reveals “attempts to influence the political life of European countries, possibly even French politics, or perhaps efforts to carry out internal interference.”
