Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan strongly condemned Israel’s decision to impose military control over the Gaza Strip, describing it as “absolutely unacceptable” during a phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

According to Turkey’s Directorate of Communications, the two leaders discussed the recent Israeli attacks on Gaza and ongoing developments in the region. Erdogan reaffirmed Turkey’s steadfast support for Palestine and highlighted backing for statements from France, the United Kingdom, and Canada regarding potential recognition of the Palestinian state.

The Turkish president also pointed to growing international criticism of Israel’s actions in the West and reiterated Turkey’s commitment to peace in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned Israel’s move as a “dangerous escalation” that risks “deepening the already catastrophic consequences for millions of Palestinians.”
