Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that his government is in talks with Hamas to explain and encourage the group toward the best approach for the future of Palestinian territories.
Speaking to journalists during a flight back from Azerbaijan, Erdogan said that Donald Trump requested him to engage with Hamas to support U.S. peace efforts.
According to Erdogan, Turkish officials are also involved in negotiations in Egypt. He emphasized that Gaza must ultimately remain Palestinian and be governed by Palestinians themselves.
Erdogan added that the deployment of foreign forces in Gaza should be carefully discussed and that Turkey is ready to contribute to all related efforts.
