Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, to discuss regional tensions and recent incidents involving Turkish airspace.

Erdogan emphasized that any violation of Turkish airspace is unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances. He added that Turkey will continue to take all necessary measures to respond to such incidents.

Pezeshkian, for his part, stated that the reported rockets entering Turkish airspace were not of Iranian origin and assured that a full investigation will be conducted to determine the source of the incident.

The comments follow NATO’s interception of another ballistic missile that had entered Turkish airspace. Erdogan stressed that attacks on neighboring countries serve no one’s interest and must stop immediately.

The Turkish president also highlighted the importance of reopening diplomatic channels, noting that Turkey is actively supporting efforts aimed at de-escalation and dialogue in the region. Erdogan expressed sorrow for civilian casualties, particularly referencing the recent attack on a school in Minab.

Additionally, Erdogan extended condolences over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, expressing hope that the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader will contribute to regional peace and stability.
