Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, said that Albania is currently one of the leading countries in the European Union accession process, following a meeting with the country’s Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha.

In a statement posted on social media after the meeting, Kos said that discussions focused primarily on rule of law objectives, which she described as essential for maintaining the momentum of Albania’s EU membership negotiations.

Albania is currently one of the frontrunners in the EU accession process. This comes with high expectations,” Kos stated, emphasizing the need for credible implementation of interim rule of law benchmarks.

According to the EU commissioner, continued progress in rule of law reforms, anti-corruption efforts, and democratic standards is crucial for Albania to maintain its pace in the accession negotiations with the European Union.

The meeting took place during Hoxha’s first official visit to Brussels since assuming the role of Albania’s top diplomat. The minister described the discussions as an important opportunity to reaffirm Albania’s progress on its path toward EU membership.

Kos underlined that meeting EU standards in governance, justice reforms, and anti-corruption measures remains a key step for Albania’s eventual integration into the bloc.
