European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos expressed concern about Kosovo heading to new elections, although she emphasized that democracy in the country is functioning well.

In an interview with A2CNN, Kos said she is not pleased with another electoral cycle because the EU is waiting for the ratification of two key agreements related to the Growth Plan.

“I am not satisfied that Kosovo will have elections again, but I am pleased that their democracy is functioning. We are waiting for the ratification of two agreements for the Growth Plan. Kosovo is carrying out reforms, but we cannot release the funds without these agreements,” she stated.

Kos also praised Kosovo for being fully aligned with the EU’s foreign and security policy, even though it is still not an official candidate country. She underlined Kosovo’s strategic importance for the future of Europe.

“I cannot imagine the completion of European integration without Kosovo being part of the European Union,” Kos said.

Looking ahead, she expressed hope that a new, functional government will emerge after the elections—one capable of pushing reforms forward.

“I hope that soon after the elections there will be a new government. Kosovo has already completed several reforms and is progressing well economically. I look forward to seeing a functional and efficient government that can accelerate the membership process,” she added.
