European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has issued a stark warning at the emergency EU summit in Brussels, emphasizing the urgent need to strengthen Europe’s defense and support for Ukraine.
As she arrived at the summit, von der Leyen stated that “Europe faces a clear and present danger”, underscoring the importance of increasing defense spending across the continent.
“We must be able to defend ourselves and put Ukraine in a strong position,” she declared, highlighting the ongoing threats posed by Russia’s aggression.
The summit follows France’s recent announcement that it will consider extending the protection of its nuclear arsenal to European allies. Additionally, EU leaders are preparing for the possibility that the United States may not continue its full-scale support for Ukraine.
The meeting is expected to focus on military aid, financial backing, and strategies to ensure Europe’s long-term security amid growing geopolitical uncertainty.
