The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, visited Albania on Thursday, where she met with Prime Minister Edi Rama to discuss the country’s EU accession progress.

During a joint press conference, Rama reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to completing accession negotiations by 2027. He expressed confidence that Albanian citizens would receive European Union passports within this decade.

“Our ambition is for Albanians to hold EU passports within this decade and to enter European airports through the corridor marked by the constellation of stars, not the one labeled ‘Others.’ This is very important for us, as we have spent centuries among ‘the others,’” Rama stated.

Commissioner Kos emphasized that the current geopolitical climate strengthens Albania’s EU accession path.

“Geopolitics today tells us that everything is possible, and one thing is certain—Albania’s journey toward the EU is real and secure. I am here to express my full support for your ambitious yet realistic objectives,” Kos said.

She added that EU accession is not only about opening negotiation chapters but also closing them with successful reforms. “With all the reforms you are implementing, this goal is within reach. We want Albania to be part of the EU because with you, Europe will not just be bigger—it will be stronger,” Kos concluded.
