Pristina, August 6, 2025 — The European Union’s Special Envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Peter Sorensen, wrapped up a day of high-level meetings in Kosovo with a clear message: The Ohrid Agreement is still alive and must be implemented without delay.
Speaking briefly to journalists after his meeting with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Sorensen responded to a question about the state of the dialogue with a concise but telling phrase: “Alive and kicking.”
While Sorensen did not offer further details following the meeting with Kurti, he continued his visit by meeting with leaders of other major political parties throughout the day.
At the end of his visit, Sorensen summarized his engagements in a post on platform X (formerly Twitter), underlining the central message he conveyed during the talks.
“Productive visit to Kosovo today. In all my meetings, I emphasized the urgent need to implement the Ohrid Agreement — now more than ever. The path to EU integration runs through meaningful progress in the dialogue. Time to move forward,” he wrote.
The Ohrid Agreement, brokered by the EU in March 2023, aims to normalize relations between Kosovo and Serbia. Implementation of its provisions, including steps toward mutual recognition and the formation of the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities, has been stalled amid political tensions and diverging interpretations from both sides.
Sorensen’s remarks signal increasing EU pressure on both Pristina and Belgrade to advance the process, particularly as the region’s European integration prospects remain closely tied to progress in the dialogue.
