The European Union is expected to lift all restrictive measures against Kosovo, according to unofficial sources in Brussels. These sources indicate that Monday could mark the date when the final decision is formalized.

Unverified reports suggest that all decision-making procedures within the European Commission have been completed, with only a meeting of representatives from EU member states—responsible for regional affairs—remaining. This session is anticipated to approve the removal of sanctions, according to the public broadcaster RTKLive.

The EU measures were originally imposed in June 2023. A year later, former EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell recommended their removal, but it took over 18 months for the decision to progress toward formalization.

Since the implementation of these measures, more than €400 million in European financial assistance to Kosovo had been frozen. By the end of 2025, half of these restrictions were lifted, with the remaining portion pending.

The sanctions also included the suspension of bilateral meetings between EU officials and Kosovo government representatives, except for cases involving regional-level discussions.

Kosovo remains a country not yet visited by EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, who plans to travel to the region later this month. EU officials suggest that this visit could serve as an ideal opportunity to announce the formal lifting of the measures.
