The failure of the parties (i.e., Kosovo and Serbia) to reduce tensions will have consequences, stated the spokesperson for the European Union, Peter Stano, on Monday.
While speaking about the closure of five Serbian parallel institutions by Kosovo authorities last week, he said that the bloc considers these actions to be unilateral and uncoordinated, with the potential to increase tensions.
“There are longstanding issues on the table that need to be addressed. We consider this very unhelpful and another unilateral and uncoordinated step that has the capacity to raise tensions and lead to further escalation. The failure of the parties to reduce tensions will have consequences,” Stano said at the press conference.
Although he did not provide a date for the next meeting between the parties in Brussels, Stano stated that such a meeting is expected to be held very soon.
“We announce meetings when it is appropriate. We do not usually announce meetings at the chief negotiator level for the media. But, undoubtedly, our goal is to have a meeting at the chief negotiator level as soon as possible because there are a number of issues to discuss,” Stano said.
