European Union ambassadors have agreed on a 15th package of sanctions against Russia in response to its war in Ukraine, targeting its fleet of tankers and Chinese companies producing drones for Moscow, diplomats said.
The Hungarian presidency announced on X that the sanctions would focus on ships from third countries supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine and would add more individuals and entities to the sanctions list.
The sanctions will not be approved until they receive approval from foreign ministers on Monday.
Diplomats told Reuters that the package also includes a six-month extension for the Czech Republic to import Russian products, primarily passing through Slovakia.
“I welcome the approval of our 15th sanctions package, which specifically targets Russia’s fleet,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on X.
The sanctions package is expected to be officially approved at a meeting of EU foreign ministers on Monday and will target nearly 30 entities, over 50 individuals, and 45 tankers, Reuters reports.
