The new head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Dirk Schuebel, met with KFOR Commander Major General Özkan Ulutaş on Friday, highlighting the complementary roles of the EU and NATO in supporting Kosovo’s stability and European integration.
Schuebel said cooperation between the EU and NATO was in the interest of all communities in Kosovo and was among the issues discussed during the meeting.
“While the EU supports Kosovo’s integration politically and financially, KFOR plays a crucial role in maintaining security and a safe environment,” Schuebel said in a statement following the meeting.
The meeting comes as Kosovo continues to face institutional and security challenges, while its European integration remains a central political objective.
Schuebel, who recently took over as head of the EU Office in Kosovo, has emphasized the need for rapid institutional formation and constructive cooperation to advance reforms and make full use of EU support mechanisms.
KFOR, meanwhile, remains the main international security presence in Kosovo under the NATO-led mission, with its mandate focused on maintaining a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all communities.
The meeting between Schuebel and Ulutaş underscores the close coordination between the EU and NATO in Kosovo, particularly as Brussels continues to provide political and financial support while KFOR maintains the security framework necessary for stability.
