Riho Terras, the European Parliament’s rapporteur for Kosovo, has reacted to the support Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić received from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a recent conversation between the two leaders, Putin guaranteed support for the Serbian authorities, which are currently facing anti-government protests.

Terras stressed that Russia’s interference in the Balkans is not a new phenomenon, sharply criticizing President Vučić for directing Serbia’s policies towards a future dominated by Moscow’s influence.

He expressed concern that Vučić is viewing Serbia’s future developments through the lens of “Putin’s dictate.”

“Russia’s intervention models are nothing new, and President Vučić makes no secret of it – he envisions Serbia’s future under Putin’s dictate,” Terras said, urging European authorities to take action to safeguard the region’s integrity and independence.

The European Union also responded to Serbia’s recent actions in the Council of Europe, deeming them clear violations of the Ohrid Agreement.

Serbia has obstructed Kosovo’s bid to obtain special candidate status in the Political Committee of the Council of Europe Assembly, a move that, according to the EU, violates the agreement on normalizing relations between the two states, said an EU spokesperson.
