The European Parliament’s Kosovo Rapporteur, Riho Terras, has strongly condemned Serbia’s manipulation and interference in the upcoming local elections in Kosovo, scheduled for Sunday.

In a statement issued Friday, Terras highlighted that Serbia’s direct influence is once again visible ahead of the vote, targeting Kosovo’s sensitive political environment. He specifically criticized Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić for pre-election actions aimed at destabilizing Kosovo and undermining its sovereignty.

According to the European Parliament report, Serbian government officials publicly supported a specific Kosovo Serb political party, introduced new social aid programs, and offered temporary positions in institutions controlled by Belgrade just days before the elections.

Terras reminded that similar concerns had been raised previously by Nathalie Loiseau, former head of the EU Election Observation Mission, following Kosovo’s general elections on February 9, 2025.

He called on the Serbian authorities to immediately halt any interference in Kosovo’s elections and allow citizens to freely choose their local representatives.

Riho Terras, a former Estonian military officer and ex-member of the European Parliament, emphasized the importance of upholding democratic processes and respecting Kosovo’s sovereignty.
