The European Union has expressed readiness to work with Kosovo’s authorities toward the gradual removal of the measures imposed on Kosovo but only once a new government is formed.
The spokesperson for Foreign Affairs, Security Policy, Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Yuliya Matsyk, said that the Commission expects Kosovo to return to the path of necessary reforms and to advance in the process of normalizing relations with Serbia two essential conditions for progress toward the EU.
“The Commission took the first steps to gradually lift the measures in force in May 2025. As stated earlier, we aim to further lift these measures. We welcome the smooth handover of local administration in the four northern municipalities and expect the new mayors to represent the interests of all citizens…,” Matsyk told Koha.
“The EU is ready to work with Kosovo’s authorities once they are elected and to continue supporting Kosovo on its path toward the EU. We expect Kosovo to return to the course of essential EU-related reforms, for the benefit of its population, and to make progress in normalizing relations with Serbia,” the statement reads.
